Power of Attorney
Power of Attorney for Health Care
This document specifies who is to make medical decisions for you when you are unable. If you are not married and do not have a Power of Attorney for Healthcare, your partner may not only be barred from making medical decisions, they may be barred from the hospital all together.
Medical Identification Card
While not taking the place of a Power Of Attorney, a Medical Identification card is also recommended. This card will alert healthcare workers to the whereabouts of the person you name in the Power of Attorney. The Medical Identification Card is provided with all Powers of Attorney for Health Care.
Power of Attorney for Finances
This document allows the person you name to make financial decisions for you, including making payments and writing checks. Basically anything you can do with your finances, so can the person you name. This Power of Attorney is especially important if you become incapacitated. However, you can design this power to be broad or specific.
